Help & user guide
Everything you need to set up ChoreQuest for your family and get kids earning points for real chores.
Getting started
- Create your family account at Sign up with your email, family name, and password.
- Add kids in Parent HQ under Kids. Each child gets a unique username and a 4-digit PIN.
- Create chores under Chores. Set points, assign kids, and optionally require a photo.
- Add rewards under Rewards. Set prizes and point costs so kids know what they are working toward.
- Send kids to the kid app — open the kid login page on their device (bookmark it for easy access). They log in with username + PIN.
Your dashboard shows a Getting started checklist until you dismiss it. You can return here anytime for details.
Kids & usernames
What is a username?
Each kid has a globally unique username (like georgia_a3f9). Kids type this on the kid login screen so they always land in the right family — usernames cannot overlap between families.
When adding a kid, you can leave the username blank and ChoreQuest will auto-generate one from their name.
PIN
Each kid has a 4-digit PIN (like a simple password). You set it when creating or editing a kid. Kids enter username + PIN to open their chore list.
Profile photo & avatar
Optional profile photo and a fallback emoji avatar appear on the leaderboard and kid login screen.
Chores
From Chores in Parent HQ you can:
- Title & points — how many stars kids earn when they complete the chore.
- Assign kids — only assigned kids see that chore in their app.
- Requires photo — when enabled, the kid must take or upload a picture to mark it done (great for proof).
- Active / inactive — turn chores off without deleting history.
- Days of week — leave all days unchecked for every day; check specific days for weekly chores.
- Bonus chore — shows in a separate Bonus missions section for extra points.
Rewards
Under Rewards in Parent HQ you build a catalog of prizes (screen time, treats, outings, etc.). Each reward has a point cost; set cost to 0 for free rewards (e.g. a hug) that are granted instantly when a kid redeems.
- Kids earn points by completing chores (added to their lifetime total).
- In the kid app, open the Rewards tab and tap Redeem on a reward they can afford.
- Paid rewards stay pending until you approve them under Rewards → Pending redemptions. Free (0-point) rewards are approved immediately.
- Approve deducts spendable points (their wallet balance) and means you are giving them the reward. Reject cancels the request without charging points.
Approving a reward does not lower a kid’s All time leaderboard score — that tracks lifetime points earned from chores.
Kids do not need to finish every chore today before using Rewards — they spend points they have already earned.
The kid app
- Open the kid app.
- Enter the kid’s username (lowercase) and 4-digit PIN on the number pad.
- Tap a chore to mark it done. If a photo is required, use the camera or gallery button.
- Points add to their total and show on the leaderboard.
Tip for parents: log in once on a shared tablet so the device remembers your family. Kids still need their own username + PIN.
Leaderboard
Both the kid app and Parent HQ show a leaderboard with three views:
- Today — points earned today, with progress bars for chores assigned today.
- This week — points since Monday (in your family timezone).
- All time — total lifetime points earned from chores (not reduced when rewards are redeemed).
Settings
Under Settings in Parent HQ you can update:
- Family name — shown in the sidebar and kid app.
- Timezone — controls what “today” and “this week” mean for chores and the leaderboard.
- Theme — visual style (space, jungle, ocean, candy, arcade) for the whole family.
- Parent password — your login password for Parent login.
Troubleshooting
- Kid can’t log in
- Check the username is correct (all lowercase, no spaces). Reset their PIN under Kids → Edit. Make sure you’re using the kid app URL, not the parent login page.
- Forgot a kid’s PIN
- Parent HQ → Kids → Edit on that child → enter a new 4-digit PIN → Save.
- Wrong family / can’t find chores
- Each username belongs to one family. If the kid was added under your account, use the username shown on their profile in Kids.
- Browser filled in the wrong email on the Add kid form
- That’s your browser’s password manager — clear the fields and type the kid’s info manually, or use a private window when setting up kids.
- Photo won’t upload
- Use JPG, PNG, or WebP under 5 MB. On phones, allow camera permission when prompted.
- Account suspended
- If you see a suspension message at parent login, contact support (see below).
